Introduction:
|
Hello,
It is getting harder and harder to come up with new things to say for an introduction, but as I do enjoy a challenge, hopefully my classmates will appreciate this effort!
My name is Shelby Simmons, I am the Parent Involvement Coordinator for the Colleton County School District and I serve the seven Title I schools in our county. I support the work of our Director of Federal and Special Programs and am a Liaison for students served by our McKinney-Vento Program (students who lack adequate housing). While I currently focus on providing support to our parent community, I have taught at the elementary level and am an Adjunct Professor at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. This summer I will be the Site Coordinator for the district’s 4k and 5k Summer Ready to Read Program and our Summer Reading Camp for 2nd and 3rd grade students.
This is the second to the last class I need to graduate from the M. Ed. in Educational Technology Program – I am a Columbia Campus student – and I was recently accepted into the Ed. D. Program in Curriculum and Instruction, also at USC-C. Next week I will begin EDRM 700, the last class I need to graduate!
I live in Walterboro, SC, am married, and have one son who is a student in our public school system. I do not have any pets, although I am partial to dogs, and my hobbies are reading and watching Korean Dramas on Netflix and the Viki app. My favorites include Be Strong, Geum Soon, Boys Over Flowers, and The Secret Garden. I do not speak Korean, but I am considering a summer trip in a year or two to teach and learn.
I look forward to this course as some of my research interests include the effectiveness of online learning environments for professional development and for expanded course offerings in rural districts.
Thank you!
