I am currently a 1st semester student in the M. Ed. Educational Technology program and am in the process of applying to the Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction program.
I completed the MAT in Elementary Education in August of 2011 and was unable to find a position close to home as a teacher. Although I was offered a position at the awesome school I was blessed to intern with, the distance was too much of a burden on my son, who is 5 years old.
Amazingly, just five days before graduation, I was able to find the “job-of-my-dreams” as the Title I Parent Involvement Coordinator for the Colleton County School District in Walterboro, SC. My position allows me to work with teachers, district administrators, school administrators, parents, students, and community members to improve student achievement by building parenting, academic, and job skills among parents. I am also an integral part of the administration and monitoring of the Supplemental Educational Services program that ensures tutoring services for 384 of the district’s roughly 2000 elementary students. One key feature of my job is the design and development of the Title I and Parent Involvement Program websites (http://ccsdtitle1.weebly.com and http://ccsduplift.weebly.com) and the development of online parent and professional development programs.
Short term, my goals include increasing attendance at the parent events at all seven of the Title I schools I coordinate by 35% and programming and hosting the first annual parent field day for our district. Long-term I would like to complete the Ed.D. program and continue to work in my position or in another district level position that allows me to do all the things I love: educating parents and children, using technology to support attainment of academic achievement, and living in beautiful Colleton County!
I have read Gone with the Wind 3 times and seen the movie 8 times.
I served on the SC YA Book Award Committee and presented Water Dean Myers with an award.
My pinkie fingers are about 30% shorter than the average person’s pinkies!
